This is a very exciting time in the global cruise industry, with new ships and exciting innovations that are elevating the guest experience, and several first-time ports of call. In fact, I just returned from the first sailing of a cruise ship from the U.S. to Cuba in more than 50 years. Visiting Havana was a very unique experience. Locally, we are uniting employees from several sister brands within Carnival Corporation & plc – Holland America Line, Princess Cruises and Seabourn – under one roof in our new Seattle headquarters building on 450 Third Avenue West. Bringing all our Seattle team members together is an important step in facilitating closer working relationships, and it’s a pivotal moment in our company’s continuing evolution. As we build our new, state-of-the-art building from the ground up, we’ve invited our employees to help create our new space which will foster greater collaboration and a work environment which allow for greater personal interactions. Our people are the key to our past, current and future successes, so this is a very exciting time for us here in Seattle.

What does being a part of the WTCSE community mean to you?

As a founding member of the World Trade Center and co-chair of the Board, it is an honor to be associated with the WTCSE community.  I personally value the many opportunities to connect and collaborate with business leaders in our region, to share ideas and to help highlight and offer solutions to important issues facing our community. Though Holland America Line has been a global company for more than 143 years, we have been headquartered in Seattle for 35 years and we are Seattle’s Hometown Cruise Line and have a vested interest in the growth of our local community. WTCSE helps make both global and local connections happen.

Virginia Mason is transforming health care in this region and around the globe! We now offer consulting services through our Virginia Mason Institute, working with health care systems in 24 countries. It is so inspiring to see our Virginia Mason Production System improve quality and safety while reducing the cost of care for patients and their families. We are being selected for our high quality and low cost by employers, the State of Washington, and so honored to serve patients and families as we continue to grow and expand our services. There has never been a more exciting time in health care than right now.

What does being a part of the WTCSE community mean to you?

Virginia Mason was honored to be invited to the World Trade Center as a Founding Member at its inception. We have been privileged to interact with a wide spectrum of businesses and host several receptions to update this prestigious audience of leaders on health care’s advancement over the years. It has truly been my honor to serve on the Board, representing Virginia Mason and including our Chairman and CEO, Gary S. Kaplan, MD, to provide timely updates on health care issues relevant to the WTCSE Board.
