FREE TRADE AND THE IMPACT ON WASHINGTON STATE

Presented by The Heritage Foundation

International trade and investment directly support nearly 600,000 jobs in Washington state, and indirectly roughly 40 percent of jobs in the state are tied to trade. Protectionist tariffs are taxes on Washington state businesses and families, especially those imposed on imports from China, the state’s top export market.

Trade policy should prioritize opening new markets and increasing the freedom of individuals in Washington state, and around the country, to buy and sell with the world free of government intervention.

Please join Tori K. Whiting, Jay Van Andel Trade Economist at The Heritage Foundation and Michael A. Fowler, Senior Trade Consultant at the World Trade Center Tacoma, in partnership with the World Trade Center Seattle, for a roundtable discussion on how Washington state and the U.S. can continue to benefit from free trade.
