Research by JP Morgan shows women’s participation in the labor market has dropped to a 33-year low.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, 2.5 million working women – mostly minorities and mothers - have been let go, fired, or have resigned since March 2020, compared to 1.8 million men. In December 2020, 156,000 women lost their jobs, while 16,000 men obtained jobs.
Vice President Kamala Harris declared the COVID-19 gender gap a “national emergency,” saying, “Our economy cannot fully recover unless women can participate fully.”
